1000 posts … 10 000 comments

April 19th, 2011 – we put up the first tentative “test” posts.

April 25th, 2011 – Luikkerland opened for us officially with “Writing is the First Act of Rebellion” and we were away.

It’s been a surprising run.  Obviously there was going to be the initial rush for some time, with up to 37 authors listed and for various reasons, the bulk of those have dropped by he wayside – Orphans looked like it would go the way of other projects – a good idea but one which ends up muttering by itself in the corner.

We were always prepared – we even are now – to wind it up if it looks as if people don’t need OoL any more but that does not appear to have happened.

From an admin point of view, the only “work” we’ve needed to do, apart from our techie Chuckles, has been to approve new commenters and they are still coming in.  With the freeing up for contributors in the last couple of weeks, we feel it’s better, it sits better and it does occupy a corner of the sphere labelled “responsible libertarianism”.

It’s not been an onerous job by any means and you’d be surprised how Longrider, Julia and I actually do get on behind the scenes, as distinct from on the front page.  He’ll email something like “let’s do this”.  I’ll reply “sounds OK”, Julia will write later that evening “let’s” and that’s that.  New policy is in place but if you’d blinked, you’d have missed it.  KISS is dear to all our hearts.

We thank you, the readers, for the often lively “discussion” and it’s probably fair to say that Longrider, Julia and I feel it’s been worthwhile.  Long may it continue, eh?

Well done chaps , Someone nearly always beats me to it when I feel I’ve got something to contribute (and normally says it better) plus RL has intervened too many times ,I can barely add anything worthwhile on my own place.

Keep up the good work, will try to be more of a contributor than a reader this year. 💡

Seconded! To all the ‘workers’ at OoL I can but say thanks for your efforts and well done!

Might not have posted as much as I would have wished (still don’t understand what HTML is) – consequently it might help if I could understand how to without causing the admin having to vet my efforts every time, format wise!

      *blushes* and leaves……..

Will definitely try to ‘input’ more often!

The best way is to use the non-HTML WYSIWYG screen or better still download something like Windows Writer so that you can compose offline and submit without even looking at any code.

Congratulations on reaching the 1000 in such a short space of time. The quality and range of content that is tackled head on never fails to please.

This is every bit as good as the blogs sections of the quality newspapers, in some cases better, as you will discuss what they fail to.

    Here’s to the next 1000. 😆

Yes, well done, but this blog didn’t “just happen”. If you, LR and JM hadn’t been blogging for donkeys’ years, building up a good reputation as quality bloggers etc, then OOL wouldn’t have taken off in the way it did.

PS, If you’re doing stat porn, what are the monthly hits like?

To answer my own question, I logged on and clicked around a bit, 40,000 a month. Not bad!

10000 comments is an amazing number in this short time. Well done everyone!

And well done you. I don’t know how you write so many of your pithy posts, let alone leave comments as well!

Just to add my voice – thanks to all who have posted and commented. Mark is right, of course, but that said, I am seeing a lot of people coming in here that I’ve not come across before.
