April 19th, 2011 – we put up the first tentative “test” posts.
April 25th, 2011 – Luikkerland opened for us officially with “Writing is the First Act of Rebellion” and we were away.
It’s been a surprising run. Obviously there was going to be the initial rush for some time, with up to 37 authors listed and for various reasons, the bulk of those have dropped by he wayside – Orphans looked like it would go the way of other projects – a good idea but one which ends up muttering by itself in the corner.
We were always prepared – we even are now – to wind it up if it looks as if people don’t need OoL any more but that does not appear to have happened.
From an admin point of view, the only “work” we’ve needed to do, apart from our techie Chuckles, has been to approve new commenters and they are still coming in. With the freeing up for contributors in the last couple of weeks, we feel it’s better, it sits better and it does occupy a corner of the sphere labelled “responsible libertarianism”.
It’s not been an onerous job by any means and you’d be surprised how Longrider, Julia and I actually do get on behind the scenes, as distinct from on the front page. He’ll email something like “let’s do this”. I’ll reply “sounds OK”, Julia will write later that evening “let’s” and that’s that. New policy is in place but if you’d blinked, you’d have missed it. KISS is dear to all our hearts.
We thank you, the readers, for the often lively “discussion” and it’s probably fair to say that Longrider, Julia and I feel it’s been worthwhile. Long may it continue, eh?
