And these three are the heroines who will lift Russia from its oppression and back on the path to nobility?

My Russian friend who wrote:

Most people in Russia suggest they girls should have receive 7 years at least… This band is too dirty. West knows nothing about them. One of them being on the 9-th month of pregnancy participated in a so called art-performance.

… has sent the full version of the event with the 9 month pregnant member of Pussy Riot, from a young person’s forum in Russia. That stunt was not the current one in the church but an earlier one about saving the bears and it was in a natural history museum hall. Remembering that this is my translation from the Russian, the journalist wrote things like:

I also was not clear why they were all arranged in the hall of the museum, including stuffed animals, pictures of some intestines, and other viscera. “Is that the way to protect the animals?” – I thought. All participants in this orgy are in a strange trance. Their eyes were completely irresponsible.

First Pussy Riot and then more and more people, middle-aged and uglier appeared and it was basically gangbang porn in public. They were all shouting things like “save the bear” throughout it.

Over here many male readers, I’d wager, might even wish they’d seen it, maybe even have had an invite to get into the young Pussy Riot three among the dozen or so participants. On the forum, there were over 2200 comments, mainly from the young whom you’d expect to be tolerant – well, it’s not so bad, a bit misguided but fun etc.

About a third of those comments – and it took some translating because there was much street jargon – were certainly tolerant – what’s the big deal, while laughing at the three as idiots. The journo himself put in many comments, justifying his hypocrisy in filming it all and posting on it with close ups of the whole show, including the pregnat Pussy rioter being shared around.

Avatar of one of the forum users

These were the typical comments from the majority:

# … and pass the bill on which any artistic action must obtain permission from City Hall. Better yet, put them all at once far away over the hill. Let [them] rot in their own filthy state.

# Art event? Of course! Boring? You bet! I would add: vulgar, vile and unaesthetic, like all modern art. So you better …write here [to] the competent authorities.

# The number of people with mental health problems in Russia is growing every year. Already today there were about 3 million people who have mental problems. The head of the psychological laboratory of the Moscow regional center of social forensic psychiatry, Victor Guldan says: “In the former Soviet Union worked control system of mentally ill people. Perhaps in some cases and violated human rights, but nevertheless, due to mental hospital in time to provide the necessary people assistance.”

# The degenerates from the staff of the museum, who, by authorizing a “high political art”, did not think about the kids out there who might be [can't translate the next bit but think it means watching or "who need real support"]

# Typical campaign to discredit the opposition to mark the upcoming March of Dissenters March 3. It was already such rally called dissent. This was done by the same people. State organizations such as the FSB is almost always work the same scheme.

That’s interesting because I’ve already surmised that Pussy Riot may have been a Putin thing to discredit the liberals, knowing such vileness would turn off most of Russia.

# Author, do you lack the ability [of] minimal logical thinking to understand that the action is not in favor of some sort of bears, an act before the elections Medvedev? It just did not conform to normal political protest … why these people call themselves “artists” is unclear. Sex in public is just as little to do with art as just sex in the bedroom, or somewhere else. But the fact that all modern art (including Kulik) – complete shit, which has long lost the right to be called art, should be clear to everyone.

By the way, this event was planned [in] a very ambitious way to have at least an invitation [for] my girlfriend [to come to it].

# Ebicheski-magic-cabalistic event in support of Medvedev people masquerading as the Slavs, a kind of twisted all)))

# These muzzle-train [don't quite get that one] and their bodies simply disgusting! Inhumans! What to say? And the author – their own! Decent people at least understand that society does not accept this distribution [not sure what that means]. And the author – theirs is crap – particularly sorry for [her] being pregnant – her stirilizovat [sterilization is] necessary – these children should not be!

[Meaning her having children as a result of such events is not on. Pussy Riot do their sex on stage - how they get away with it, except through complicit authorities, is intriguing, maybe it's voyeurism.]

# Feeling of disgust. Well this is for the people! And bad people catch the buzz! Destroying reptiles necessary for art [think this means they destroyed reptiles and put them over her naked body and photographed her - I saw the pics of them crawling over her and then they were killed], and then infect others. Intercourse with the dead! Who needs this degenerative squalour? [Translation is difficult here] Degenerates? And these degenerates [will] create a republic – all miserable there! Human faeces they are! If we have the men [we] do not want to dirty their [think it means tadgers] in these individuals [meaning those girls]!

# And you think, who are these people? Normal or what? Unfortunately, in the hands of [the mentally ill] – the media, money, resources, etc. Sick – very active, active healthy but sick! Sick world and captured! Example on your site – you should not do this! Because, if you learn of [such] crap – so it’s a normal person who would hide [not join in with a pregnant woman]! And you spread [this] sh*t! [It's having a go at the journo here] Stuck out there with these beasts, sniffing their vile discharges, looking into their filthy faces [meaning body hygiene here] – who are you then?

There were many more like that but the translating’s exhausted me. I think you get the idea. Again – returning to Bruce Charlton – we’ve been inured against horror at these things, we almost find them clever and certainly nothing to be upset over but sick Britain is not Russia. Over here, we praise dirtbags like Tracy Emin who is a quite vile specimen – I’ve seen her twat in a picture of herself she released and wish I never had – and she’s some official art authority for the UK [?], the Mail celebrates skanks in the right column – this is our culture now.

Thinking now about what she’s done?

Russian criminal youth is now trying to catch up with the west. These things have little to do with Putin or Medvedev or anything else worth the effort protesting about. It’s about a rent-a-cause excuse to indulge in something and cover it with a noble cause to excuse it.

As one of the Russians commented – there is always a percentage of sickos in any society. What distinguishes Pussy Riot from any other sickos is that they have had maximum worldwide publicity, under the guise of being anti-Putin.

The whole libertarian movement seem to be behind them.  Witness Longrider’s oh so tolerant post before this one, not supporting porn but in supporting freedom to do anything, in effect supporting it.  I left a comment about minimum standards of ethics and public decency, generally agreed.

Are people not allowed by libertarians to want certain minimum standards to be the norm.   There’ll always be bohemians, they’ll always be a minority unless there is a complete falling away, as there was in between wars Berlin and Paris and the result was degradation and oppression – precisely what the libertarian would wish not to happen.

There’s such a tilting at windmills here, particularly among the former leftist libertarians.   Am I completely alone in speaking of minimum standards of ethics and public decency?

Finally, I have one question – are these three the heroines who will lift Russia from its oppression and back on the path to nobility?

………..

UPDATE Through from Russia at midday today. Apparently the gay community in particular are disseminating this photo as a symbol.  My friend writes:

Of course journalist should be taken to jail as well. As well as journalists who were making videos of chopping of the Crest in Ukrain.

It shows, that journalist are not a human, since they have no conscience. And they help to spread anti-social behaviour.

Now I reproduce that, not to support it but to show the depth of feeling which came through in those comments above and also in my friend. I think you’re getting to see how this has affected Russia.

Now I wish to mention something. I’ve posted a few times on Nimrod and Semiramis – the prostitute principle as the Madonna and was met with eyes to the ceiling. Here it is in this photo, exactly the same motif as in Notre Dame during the French Revolution – the cult of the prostitute. Jump to today and Paris Hilton, Jordan and all the others in the Femail section of the Mail.

I’m not talking through my backside here – these people are adopting and using this symbolism. This girl in the photo was one of those doing the gangbang and the dissemination across Russia of such a picture has a clear message to youth to help break society down.

And the result, if they succeed, will be lawlessness and consequent oppression and loss of freedom for the ordinary person.

I get it. You hate these women. But I still don’t understand what you think was in all this for them. They have gone to gaol for their beliefs and almost certainly expected a more severe sentence than has been applied. Misguided as they may have been in their methodology, why can’t you respect their motives and admire their courage?

Why would you think that they have some other agenda than stated? There is no conceivable benefit to them in any of this. Given the lack of copyright enforcement in Russia, it certainly won’t be to sell their records. Rock groups can only make money there by live performances and they won’t be doing those in gaol.

No James, no-one minds you having ethical standards. In fact some of us are quite miffed that you imply you are “completely alone” in it. What we (or at least I) mind is that you seem to be applauding the selective enforcement of such standards against enemies of the Russian leadership using criminal law. You are even reporting with implied approval the view of “most Russians” that the sentences should have been more severe.

The so-called performance art seems to have been in very bad taste, if indeed it (or the Pussy Riot girls’ participation in it) is for real. When such materials serve the interest of the chekists however, I would personally be inclined to look for independent verification. Wasn’t that the true meaning of the comment you quote on the forum?

    # Typical campaign to discredit the opposition to mark the upcoming March of Dissenters March 3. It was already such rally called dissent. This was done by the same people. State organizations such as the FSB is almost always work the same scheme.

You think the commenter meant Pussy Riot were misconducting themselves to discredit the opposition they are now in gaol for supporting. Perhaps he meant that the “event” was staged to discredit them all? Maybe not. Maybe they are sluts. They are damn brave sluts if so.

You’re clearly determined not to get it, aren’t you, Tom? Even though I think you get it very well.

The whole focus here is the effect on the society as a whole of the massive support these three are getting outside of Russia for a message which is wrong. Let me say it one more time – this is not to do with Putin. It is to do with feminism, religion and the prostitute motif.

Hate these women? I couldn’t care less about them but I do care about the damage to western and Russian relations as a result, not of their actions but of the way the whole saga has been played up as some sort of “brave” protest. Not brave in the least and you know it, having now seen what it’s about.

And isn’t interesting that we are able to see it when the MSM runs a narrative on other issues but not on this because of two factors:

    1. it’s not western and
    2. there’s a religious element.

On both counts it’s therefore to be dismissed, isn’t it? I’ve not used the word hypocrisy yet.

And the preferred aslternative is Putin’s KGB-lite is it?
With awkward critics of the guvmint locked up until they convenoiently die in jail, or are bakrupted, or forced to flee the country if they can?
Pussy riot’s performance(s) are NOT my cup of tea, but that’s not the point, is it?

And it is EVERYTHING to do with Strong-Man putin …
    ( NO that wan’t a typo)

    • August 20, 2012 at 3:43 pm

Their performance is not the point except that they are presented as brave freedom fighters. They are not. This thing was orchestrated and what it’s done is enhance Putin in Russia and set the west even further against him, which he doesn’t give a s*** about, except to use it as fodder in his own country.

So, in effect, they’ve been good for Putin.

Going to transfer two comments over here from my place:

richard, on August 20th, 2012 at 14:55 Said:

Until today I supported PR, a bit outrageous but free speech, no real victims, etc etc. Thanks for revealing the truth. I thought myself an ethical chap and well able to spot evil. Wrong. Time for a bit of reflection and re-evaluation of my own beliefs and I am somewhat ashamed of my refex action support of these people.

James Higham, on August 20th, 2012 at 15:37 Said:

Richard, the thing banks on the west’s view of Putin [not incorrect] and the way these three have been painted to us. It was never part of the narrative that a western blogger happened to have spent twelve years in the country and had a conduit to Russians who could send him the material on the girls, complete with photos.

So their strategy was sound to present them as the martyrs to the cause as who would ever question it?

PR would have been arrested an d sentenced in this country
For “Behaviour lilely to cause a breach of the peace …
Been bound over for good behaviour for 2 years, sentenced to whatever the actual time they had already spent in jail, and fine £100 each.
    Do we note the difference?
    No?
    Then you’re an idiot.

I see things like this as the path back to repression.

    Just sayin’
