Kumbaya [nuclear proliferation]

Obama Says Iran A Year Away From Nuclear Weapon — AP.

“Right now, we think it would take over a year or so for Iran to actually develop a nuclear weapon, but obviously we don’t want to cut it too close,” he said. “So when I’m consulting with Bibi (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) as I have over the last several years on this issue, my message to him will be the same as before: `If we can resolve it diplomatically that is a more lasting solution. But if not I continue to keep all options on the table.”

This probably means that Iran is going to get the bomb in about a year. In short order the Saudis and the Gulf states will have to get get their own. The administration will not hinder Iran any more than it could stop North Korea. Meanwhile, Pakistan is building one of the largest nuclear arsenals on earth, rivaling that of France, the better to sell to the Saudis. This will compel India to arm up. South Korea is now talking about obtaining a nuclear weapon. One this happens Japan will inevitably build their own nukes. Australia then cannot be far behind.

And so the chain begins.

Isn’t the non-aggression principle awkward for hard core libertarians?
Now that North Korea has the Bomb the price of attacking them has gone up.

What will happen if Iran gets the Bomb?
A bunch of muslim lunatics with the Bomb, leading to more muslim lunatics wanting the Bomb.
I wouldn’t lose a minute of sleep if Iran and Saudi Arabia incinerated each other, but that’s not the only risk.

If a pre-emptive strike on Iran is necessary to prevent them getting nuclear weapons, then I hope it is done. Of course it’s an appalling scenario, but the alternative is worse.

I may have a few libertarian tendencies, but I know that I’m certainly not ideologically pure.
How do others here view it?

France whilst having a formidable Nuclear arsenal and as important global delivery systems, is not the largest Nuclear arsenal, the U.S. is followed by Russia. There is no way Pakistan can rival the established technologies of the western powers and it is the competence of the delivery systems that decide who has the upper hand in using nukes, remember Pakistan North Korea et all have no defense capacity against ICBM,s the western powers do.

One almost hopes that a sunni couintry incinerates a shia one (or vice versa) as an awful warning – then it will all stop again for another 70 years, until the lessons have to be learnt again …
Trouble is, I expect the religious nutters in Iran to nuke Tel Aviv ……
And, let’s face it the Persian population do not deseve to be fried alive or poisoned by killer rains, simply because their leaders are criminally insane.

    Now what?

Israel won’t let that happen. They’ve been threatened with extinction once already within living memory, and they won’t let it happen, regardless of what Jerks like Obama might tell them to do or not do. They’ll hit first; the Iranians are indeed crazy mofos, but the Israelis are hard bastards. And they need to be, as the USA and the EU turn their backs on them.

How many countries have those “crazy mofos” attacked?

        Oh yeh, zero.
