So What’s Stopping You From Setting Up Your Own Start Up, Jess?

Jess Zimmerman on social media and the awful companies who make it:

I don’t mind if social media companies profit from users, as long as everything is transparent and above-board.

That’s nice of you…

(I mean, I mind it as much as I mind capitalism in general, but I don’t find it unusually evil – or notably different from, say, TV stations profiting from viewership.)

Ah. Of course. I forgot who you were for a minute.

In all cases, the hurt and the discord comes from a mismatch between the platform we want and the platform we have, between the privacy we believe we should have and the privacy that companies believe we can reasonably expect.

So…set up your own, then. Stop whinging about what everyone else does.

I usually try to avoid ad hominem attacks, but, but, but Ms Zim’s piccie shows an asymmetric hairstyle that’s so ugly – all the hair on her right and shaved on the left (perhaps the better to absorb leftist crap?) – that I couldn’t resist it. And her prose is boring and poorly written about a subject of no interest to anyone outside the hallowed halls of Guardianista land. Sorry 😆

I think what is stopping young Jess from starting her own social media company is that it would require effort, hard work and discipline, whereas writing for the Graun whinging about ‘capitalism’ doesn’t really require that much of the above.

Jess is safe from prying eyes. Her prose is so turgid I stopped reading after para 3.
