A little light music

John Nolte has published his list of best movies.

‘He brings The Searchers’, with John Wayne, in at No. 1; and ‘Casablanca’ only reaches No. 11. He puts ‘Apocalypse Now’ above Bogart!

I mean, with dialogue such as this, with stars such as Bogart and the luminous Bergman; this film just has to be the best.

Bogart couldn’t act. And he wasn’t responsible for the dialogue, which was written for him.
Watch Bogart in The Treasure of Sierra Madre or The African Queen and it is very difficult to believe him as either of those characters he portrays. Hardly any better in The Caine Mutiny.
And Bergman had shoulders like a middleweight boxer.

The greatest film ever made in English:

The Thomas Crown Affair, the one with Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo, not the one with Steve McQueen. McQueen couldn’t act either.

There are some people who don’t agree with me on any of these points.

Captain Renault: What in heaven’s name brought you to Casablanca?
Rick: My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.
Captain Renault: The waters? What waters? We’re in the desert.
    Rick: I was misinformed.

My favourite, very short, scene in The Searchers is the mighty “Haw – Haw” from the guitar player.
