I have a dream

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that a Conservative Party should be conservative.”

I have a dream that one day on the green hills of Blighty, the sons and daughters of a once great nation will be able to sit down together at the table and thrash out how to drive out the narcissistic idiocy gripping the land.

I have a dream that one day even the new western cesspit will be transformed into an oasis of freedom of thought, word and action, of justice and of just being left alone by SJWs to live our lives in peace.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their ideology but by the content of their character, the simple sanity of ideas and their loyalty to the nation which nurtures them.

James, I believe that one day; perhaps sooner than we think; all of your dreams will come true. I think we have overcome equally terrible, if not worse, vicissitudes and we’ll do it again.

I share your dream, but have a recurring nightmare that the economy will be driven to total collapse leading to a breakdown of society. The productive will collect into self sufficient enclaves which will slowly expand as the parasites of all colours and creeds are cleansed by starvation and emigration. Society may descend into a second feudal dark age. The lack of easily obtainable minerals and resources already used up will long delay any climb back to civilisation.
Please tell me it can’t happen!

There are IMHO three primary contributors to the quality of human society, ranked in order of contribution (first is most). (i) is technological advance – and it does not matter very much where that arose first because decades or a century on the secondary and tertiary developments will have overwhelmed the original. (ii) is hard work, applied on target (which requires the next). (iii) is enhancements to and maintenance of the underlying infrastructure of society – and this is the one where it all very much matters, and all can be undone by losing the thread – law and order, decent contractual process, political stability, minimal corruption.

As personally a mix of scientist, engineer and otherwise technologist, I can do my technical work anywhere, and for the benefit of people anywhere else. I can work hard, or not, where I am – in so far as the next does not distract me. But no one can give their best where there is no honour and no acceptance that (all other things being equal) I and all my colleagues (innovators and simple hard workers alike) should and must get their just rewards.

And IMHO that explains why s***holes are and remain s***holes, reverting thereto after any help they might have got (such as from the occasional benefits of colonialism and/or charity). [Aside, for example: compare India with most of Africa.] It is the least important of my three primary contributors in absolute terms, but it is the one most often lacking and explaining (massive) relative differences over the long term.

    Best regards
